The western bow tie is different from a normal tie both in terms of the looks and the way it is tied up. It was introduced in the 18th century and was worn by the upper class of those times. However, with time this tie lost its recognition and what we know as the standard bow tie took its place. A western bow tie is also known as string ties. However, as we have a lot of retro stuff coming back into fashion similarly these ties are back too. Many people today are wearing it for casual and formal purposes both.
So how do you make a western bow tie?
Making a western bow tie is easier than how we make the standard bow ties. These ties require lesser efforts to be made perfect and here's how you do it:
The first thing is to get a ribbon or a bow tie material which is appropriate for a western bow tie. Make sure the material you have is light and creates a fall when hung. A western bow tie with a heavy fabric won't give you the exact look. Once you have the fabric start making the tie by putting it around your neck as you do with a normal tie or bow. Measure both the sides and make sure they are equal in length because if they are not your western bow tie won't look good. Imagine a bow with one side hanging longer than the other one!
The next step is again pretty similar to the ones we normally do! Simply cross one end of the ribbon over the other one and pull it tightly so that it gets closer to your neck. The second step is making a loop of from the end you just crossed over the other one and tighten it up to your neck. This is exactly the same way as you tie a shoelace. Now simply take the end you crossed over and bring on the front of the other side. Now again bring the first end on the back of the second end to make a loop between both of the sides. Now as you do with standard ties take the first end through the loop that was just created and pull both the ends now tightly. Your western bow tie is ready now but you need to adjust it properly to look good so tighten it up and make sure both the falling ends are of the same length. Also, do not tighten it up too much or you'll suffocate!
With a western bow tie, it is important that the tie should look like a neat job therefore both the ends should be of the same length. Imagine both the end of different length and how funny they would look! Your western bow tie is ready now and you can march your way to the prom having a unique and different tie and not everyone would be wearing. A western union bow tie is trendy and at the same time unique.
