Who says men cannot wear pink? Well many say the color is too feminine for males to wear. I say, "Hogwash", think about it, a century ago females wore blue as a softer color, and males wore pink as a form of red, being more masculine. I believe society has placed too much stigma on gender roles in general, and because of that there seems to be much debate on what is right and wrong in today's fashion. Researchers have stated that pink, is for men who are seeking sympathy and for sappy romantics. A summer wedding is a perfect occasion in which a man could wear a pink bow tie; coordinated with the right color shirt it can make a smashing statement. Just please steer clear of solid color shirts with different colored cuffs and colors, for some reason it just gives the look of too much sissy posh.
Skin tone has a lot to do with being able to carry this off, if you have a very light complexion you may find it more difficult, as it may make you look too pasty. However, darker, especially olive skin tones seem to have the most appealing affect. Some women will disagree stating that no man should be caught dead in pink, nonetheless, a pink bow tie; yet I feel it shows a man who is not only secure with his sexuality and masculinity, but shows a confidence in himself that is unmistakable. I do not see it at all, as someone seeking approval but rather, not looking for your approval as they are okay with whom they are and wear what they choose. On that note, a man wearing a pink bow tie, can give the feel of someone with a calming nature, and non-threatening.
A man daring enough to wear a pink bow tie, should be commended for stepping outside the box, and having his own idea of what makes him a man; chances are its not the pink bow tie, but it sure can't hurt. There are many pink bow ties out there, which have different patterns with pink throughout them. Yet, there are also several new shades of pink, this does not mean that you should wear a hot pink bow tie to a funeral; use some discretion of course. In addition, moderation is the key; you definitely might not want to wear a pink bow tie on a daily basis, or to that long awaited interview.
To look further at the concept of men wearing pink bow ties and pink in general, let us look at women who wear pink bow ties. Who says it is wrong for women to wear ties? I think a pink bow tie can pull off a great look with a white blouse and some skinny jeans.
In the end all that matters is are you secure enough with yourself to dare and step outside that box that culture and society has created? If you feel good in a pink bow tie, "wear it," I say.
